Derrick Wells was entranced by the Mercedes brand when visiting Copenhagen as a child. His parents took him to the Tivoli gardens in a Mercedes-Benz taxi. From then on he was fascinated by the brand and the three pointed star. Having been unable to convince his parents to buy a Mercedes-Benz, he had to wait until 1982 to purchase a 1979 280TE model.

It was the experience of getting the car serviced & repaired that made him think that he could do a better job. Then Derrick Wells Independent Mercedes-Benz Specialists was born.
